Glasshouse Sports Court at The Upper East Is a Game-Changer
As a mom raising kids in Bacolod, hearing that the city’s first outdoor glasshouse sports court is rising at Megaworld’s The Upper East feels like the kind of good news that can genuinely shape our family’s everyday life for the better.
A New Playground for Active Kids
When I first learned about The Yard—a 3,290-square meter multi-purpose sports and recreational space opening in 2026 at The Upper East—I immediately imagined Abby and Ynzo running across the court, cheeks flushed from playing and not from screens. The space can be set up for basketball, volleyball, or even pickleball, and can also be turned into an open training and workout area, which means my kids can try different sports as they grow without us having to look for a new place each time.
Knowing that the facility will have fenced perimeters and sheltered bleachers gives me peace of mind as a parent because it means the kids can play while we watch comfortably and safely from the sidelines. It also makes The Yard a proper venue for tournaments and school events, so one day I can picture us cheering for them in real games right here in Bacolod.
Family-Friendly Design at The Upper East
What excites me most is that The Yard is not just a court in the middle of nowhere—it sits inside Megaworld’s 34-hectare The Upper East township, which is already becoming one of Bacolod’s most vibrant lifestyle hubs. With landmarks like the “most beautiful McDonald’s in the country,” the Philippines’ biggest Landers Superstore, The Upper East House, and a growing mix of dining and retail spots, our family can turn a simple practice day into a full bonding experience.
Surrounding the main court will be four modern glasshouses with curved rooflines that will house restaurants, food and beverage outlets, and shops offering fitness and lifestyle products—basically, everything a parent needs while waiting for the kids to finish training. Shaded walkways, pedestrian paths, and ample parking make it more convenient for families like ours who often juggle bags, water jugs, and schoolwork along with sports gear.

Building Healthy Habits While They’re Young
As a mom, one of my biggest priorities is teaching Abby and Ynzo that wellness should be a natural part of their daily lives, not something they only think about when they are older. The Yard’s vision of making wellness accessible, enjoyable, and integrated into everyday routines fits perfectly with the kind of lifestyle I want for them—less time on gadgets, more time moving, playing, and socializing in a safe environment.
Because this facility is opening soon, it means that while they are still young, they already have access to a world-class venue where they can experiment with sports, discover what they love, and build discipline through regular practice. These habits—showing up for training, working with a team, respecting rules—are exactly the character-building experiences that will help them later in school, career, and relationships.
A Place to Connect, Not Just Compete
The Yard is designed not only for athletes, but also for families and communities to come together. Aside from games and tournaments, the open athletic area can host outdoor workouts and community activities, which means parents, titas, titos, and even grandparents can join fitness events and not just sit on the sidelines.
Weekends suddenly look different in my mind: morning practices, lunch at one of the glasshouse restaurants, a quick grocery run at Landers, and maybe coffee at The Upper East before heading home. For kids like Abby and Ynzo, this kind of routine turns Bacolod into an exciting, modern city where there is always something active and wholesome to do.

Helping Bacolod Grow for Our Children’s Future
What makes The Yard even more meaningful is how it supports Bacolod’s dream of becoming a major sports tourism hub in the Negros Island Region. As the city attracts more events and visitors through modern venues like this, new opportunities open up for local coaches, trainers, student-athletes, and even small businesses around the area.
Megaworld’s commitment to elevating The Upper East—through residential towers, offices like No. 1 Upper East Avenue, retail developments, and soon a 300-room Kingsford Hotel—shows that this community is being built with long-term growth in mind. As a parent, it feels reassuring to know that while my kids are learning how to shoot hoops or serve a volleyball, they are also growing up in a city that is investing in their future.
